The ERIMIS Family Therapy and Systemic Practice is directed by  DANA REM , psychologist, system family therapist i.s., and social scientist with 32 years of experience in psychological counselling, migration research, forensic psychology, and academic teaching.

Dana has worked extensively in both Eastern Europe and the Netherlands. She has developed a broad mindset through her academic work in various settings, applying knowledge from cultural psychology, discourse analysis, migration policy analysis, and the sociology of social problems. Her roles have spanned academia,  organizational management, and policy-making, emphasizing diversity and inclusion.

As psychologist and system therapist, Dana founded the Family Therapy and Systemic Practice, as independent healthcare unit and new branch of ERIMIS.The  Family Therapy and Systemic Practice was born as a natural consequences of Dana’s professional development and expertise and as a collaborative necessity to support migrants and expats in the context of globalization and the migration crisis .

In her practice Dana supports individuals, couples, and families facing developmental challenges, using methods like System  Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Marital Therapy (Emotional Focus Therapy/Gottman), Transactional Analysis,  Mentalization Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. She offers psychological counselling and systemic therapy to migrants, students and expats based in the Netherlands or living abroad and members of the Romanian diaspora’s.

Since establishing ERIMIS in 2014, Dana has expanded her practice to focus not only on therapeutic counselling but also on collaborative research around migration, inclusion, and human rights. Her research work supports migrant communities, providing valuable insights into the integration and adaptation challenges they face.

Dana’s work is underpinned by a strong commitment to diversity, equality, and human dignity, values that are integral to both her personal and professional life.

Dana believes in the power of connection and relational growth, and her integrative approach is central to her work. Dana’s earlier experience as an information manager in the justice sector has honed her skills in managing diversity and understanding its impact of organizations and individuals.

Dana is a highly trained academic thinker and practitioner in the field of psychology. She has held various academic positions, including designing and teaching the international Social Cognition course at Amsterdam University College. Her work there involved connecting multiple disciplines to address global health justice and migration issues. She has also served as a teaching assistant at the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam, facilitating student learning in sociology, discourse analysis, and policy studies

Dana’s diverse professional experiences have equipped her with a deep understanding of diversity inclusion processes across different settings. Her commitment to human rights and democracy is evident in her advocacy and support for those who are vulnerable and ends up in marginalised positions.

Dana’s work at ERIMIS Research Migration Unit involves creating a collaborative frame for healthcare professionals and practitioners to address migration and healthcare issues in The Netherlands. The organization conducts critical discourse analysis of immigration policies and their impact on society, aiming to inform policy intervention and support migrant integration.

Her academic contributions include publications on Dutch immigrant integration policy and its restrictive language and policies. Dana’s approach emphasizes critical thinking, conceptualizing complex problems, and reframing policies narrative and assumptions.
