Migrating to a new country can disrupt family structures and create stress due to cultural and social adjustments. ERIMIS Family Therapy and Systemic Practice  is specialized in helping these families navigate the complexities of adapting to a new culture while maintaining their own identity.

This support includes addressing issues like communication barriers, differences in cultural expectations, and the stress associated with migration and acculturation.

These inter-twined approaches  are guiding  our  therapeutic intervention:

Systemic and Collaborative

Systemic. ERIMIS adopts a systemic therapeutic approach and considers individuals and families as an intricate part of the societal context and co-evolving units as a larger system. This method is particularly beneficial to people who experience complex life transitions such as  relocation and who face multiple challenges related to cultural adjustment, identity crises and “ongoing “accommodation into different societies, work and life-related  settings.

Collaborative. The collaborative approach implies the equality of the client-therapist positions.: The client is the expert of his or her own life whilst the therapist is their companion in their journey, acting from an informed not-knowing expert position.

The collaborative approach fosters client self-responsibility and involvement in the therapeutic process, whereas the role of the therapist is to assist the client and lead the process wisely in the direction of facilitation of the client’s  autonomous development and encourage  full recovery.

Transcultural and Contextual

ERIMIS provides interventions that are tailored to the unique psychosocial contexts of its clients, considering both their destination and the origin of their cultural identities.

This approach acknowledges clients’ multiple senses of belonging, encompassing personal values, customs, desires, and needs as they manifest at different stages of life.

Therapy sessions incorporate these elements into a framework that promotes healthy personal and relational growth, ensuring that clients feel understood within their diverse social and cultural landscapes.

Person-Centered Approach

ERIMIS’s therapeutic interventions are grounded in a person-centered philosophy, customizing therapy to meet the individual needs of each client or family system member.

This approach fosters a supportive environment where each person feels heard, respected, and valued.

It emphasizes that every individual’s contribution adds value to the society they live in, belong to, and originate from, fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging across different cultures and backgrounds.
